Steps to take if you forgot your MacBook password:

  • Use Admin Account: If you forgot the password of a user, but still be able to log in to your Admin account , then you can reset those users account password for them by going into your System Preferences  > Users & Groups. 
  • Recovery Mode: If the above mentioned step didn’t work, then you can try booting your Mac on recovery mode. Press Command + R when you turn on your MacBook, and keep on holding to those keys till you see a progress bar. You can then access the password recovery tool from recovery mode. On a M1 powered MacBooks there us a different way to get to recovery mode. You need to turn off the device, and press and hold power button till you see an options button which will let you select recovery mode. After Getting inside the recovery mode, open terminal and type resetpassword and press Enter/Return. This will open a password reset tool for you to process with password recovery.
