MacBook Computer is Running Slow
Is your MacBook computer running really slow? Does it lag when you're trying to open any application? Is your MacBook slow starting and it takes long to boot your device? Does your MacBook freeze at times? Your MacBook is slow all of a sudden?
Macbook running slow is a common issue that we encounter now and then, and it can be very stressful and irritating if that happens. We often use our MacBook for school or work, and MacBook running slow when you’re in a middle of something important can be really annoying, however, there is no need to worry when this happens, there are few things that you can try to get your MacBook back to pace:
- Open activity monitor to check and see what applications or processes are using your device’s processing speed. This should give a small idea about why your MacBook is running slow. Usually the applications that have high CPU usage are at or around the top for most period of time. You can end those processes by double clicking and clicking Quit.
- Check your Mac operating System OS updates. It is always better to have your MacBook completely updated. To look for the updates you can click on that apple logo at the op left corner of your MacBooks screen, and then select About This Mac. A dialog box will open up and you’ll be able to click on software updates to check if any updates are due for your system.
- Check your MacBook storage space. Go to About this Mac and select storage tab where you’ll be able to see the total space. Used space and free space on your Startup Disk. If you’re running out to space, it could cause the device to lag. So, make sure that you have removed all the unnecessary files and documents from your device to have a good amount of free space in your disk. If you’re running low on storage and there is nothing you can remove. We recommend you back up all your files either to your cloud or external drive and only keep frequently necessary documents on your MacBook.
- Make sure that unnecessary applications are not running on the background.
- Clean your MacBook. You need to occasionally clear caches and junk files to experience optimal performance of your MacBook.
- It is also helpful to check your Memory status. Go to Activity Monitor and select Memory, at the bottom you’ll be able to see Memory Pressure. If it is green then you should be good, but if t is red, that means your RAM space is running low, and you have to upgrade your RAM.
There can be various reasons as to why it is really slow. It can either be either a hardware issue or a software issue. There's a chance that the issue is with your start-up disks, or low disk space. There's a chance that you are using heavy application at a same time and your memory (RAM) is not sufficient to run those application. You might have not been updating your software for a while and your macOS is really old and could not run new softwares efficiently. There is also a chance that your MacBook has been infected by malware or viruses. Overload of applications softwares or task will also play a role in making your MacBook slow.
